Our Purpose

We fill gaps that keep people stuck and help propel them forwards!

And stay until the dead end turns into an open door

We are compassionate case workers and good deed doers who step into spaces where there are unique gaps in help or service. We find long-term solutions while filling the immediate gap temporarily. We stay involved long enough for situations to shift and new possibilities to appear.

The Helping Hippies is a registered Canadian not-for-profit organization dedicated to changing, empowering, and improving life circumstances. Some good deeds are a one-time act of kindness to get someone through an obstacle, while others are longer journeys where we walk beside someone for weeks or several months.

This might look like helping someone transition from the street into a shelter and staying with them until they find housing, coordinating community supports, and serving as a primary point of contact with health and case workers. It can also mean completing applications, topping up groceries and formula for single parents, arranging laundry and transportation, or organizing in-home help for seniors or disabled.

Sometimes it’s the system, not the people, that leave the gaps. Even with dedicated housing and support workers, appointments, applications, and follow-ups can get lost. Sometimes support staff are unaware of important information or are lacking medical or essential info to achieve a goal for the client. We help bridge those gaps by communicating with all support workers, coordinating, connecting support workers together who wouldn’t have otherwise known to be in contact, checking in, and being a main point of contact so the support already in place can help them.

We don’t just drop food or items at the door and walk away. We listen carefully, offer hugs and encouragement when welcomed, and remain present until the goal is reached. It’s not just the good deeds that change a life, its genuine love, belief, and hope that create the spark and fuel to keep going. That’s why we focus on creating real belonging and community along the way.

“When someone says thank you in a way that moves through your body and stays with you, it’s because something deeper than the obvious task was met. There’s a special kind of magic in those moments that help us all. And that’s why we focus on truly changing one life at a time.”

We have trusted health care partners, shelter staff and support workers that help us help our clients
  • Practical and emergency support for homeless, vulnerable, and low-income neighbours
  • Good deeds and acts of kindness
  • Healing workshops
  • Walking alongside individuals during hardship until they reach stability
  • Empowerment, compassionate listening, problem solving, and genuine community

What This Has Looked Like in 2026 So Far

  • From the street to stability — housed neighbours experiencing street homelessness and stayed with them through the entire process. Completing Ontario Works applications, working with O.W. case workers to get clients approved for express ODSP, shelter placement, worked with shelter staff and doctors to apply for priority subsidized housing, advocated for PSW/at-home nursing, fill-in-the-gap transportation while setting up transit assistance, phone call appointment reminders, medication checks, ongoing daily/weekly emotional support.
  • At-home supports — coordinated free laundry pickup and delivery, transportation assistance, at-home nursing, weekly companionship calls, and ongoing PSW service coordination.
  • Delivered emergency baby formula and groceries to single mothers with empty cupboards
  • Sat beside individuals in recovery so they would not be alone, offering hugs, compassionate listening, and genuine human connection
  • Helped people undergoing cancer treatment afford small comforts such as a morning coffee
  • Drove a neighbour with a disability to the laundromat, paid for laundry, and arranged free laundry pickup and delivery
  • Paid for groceries when a parent’s card was declined
  • Delivered healthy fruits, vegetables, and essential groceries while establishing recurring weekly food deliveries
  • Paid part of someone’s rent to prevent eviction
  • Supplied birthday gifts and food so parents could celebrate their child’s birthday
  • Delivered furniture to families living in poverty who previously had none

We’re The Helping Hippies, spreading love around,
Little acts of kindness in every heart we’ve found.

Step by step and street by street,
Good deeds moving in a happy beat.

Helpful Hippies, hand in hand,
Lifting hearts across the land.

When a helping hand is freely given,
New hope starts and spirits are driven.

Helpful Hippies, day by day,
Lifting lives in a lasting way.

So, what is it that matters most in the end?
It isn’t just the deeds my friend,

It’s all the hearts that get a chance to mend.

It’s the spark of hope, and genuine connection we share,
That keeps our hearts glowing everywhere.

Living Reflections and Stories From Our Work

Real moments. Real people. Stories of compassion from the work we do every day.

When You Smile at Humanity, It Smiles Back

At a grocery checkout, a mom set aside a bag of food she couldn't afford. One act of kindness rippled into three connections — and a reminder that none of us are supposed to do this alone.

Pediasure, Formula and a Tailgate of Hope

We delivered Pediasure to families with children recovering from illness who were told to buy it but could not afford it, and formula to single moms who had run out and were struggling to get by. We also supported student parents transitioning off government assistance and into school by bringing extra food and hosting a truck tailgate shop where neighbours chose what they needed from a spread of essentials and treats. Tears, hugs, handshakes and contagious smiles turned this Friday into a powerful reminder that community donations can brighten lives and help everyone feel a little more supported and a little less alone.

Sitting Beside People Until A Dead End Becomes A Door

This week we sat beside homeless neighbours and elderly community members, shaking their hand, looking them in the eyes and staying with them until they were connected to the social assistance, services and stability they need. We made calls, filled out forms, arranged free laundry pickups, transportation to health appointments and more, partnering with caring community members to be their advocates when there were no shelter beds and exhaustion had set in. By remaining present until shoulders dropped, colour returned to faces and hope was restored, we became a bridge between “I don’t know what to do” and “I have a path and I’m not walking it alone,” creating a ripple of care that can change the world one life at a time.

What People Are Saying

I am very grateful and happy to support Sacha and now, The Helping Hippies. I have personally donated money, clothing, gift cards, and other items because I so believe in what she is doing. I have watched Sacha step forward with genuine compassion to help people in real, immediate ways—someone who is cold and needs warmth, a mother trying to fill her fridge, people who need a little dignity, care, and support in a hard moment. This work is not about attention. It is about community. It is about showing up where there is need and doing what can be done with heart, honesty, and courage. The Helping Hippies is a beautiful example of ordinary people helping ordinary people, one act of care at a time. I’m so very proud to support her.

Kiersten Dempster Mississauga, ON

Sacha is one of those people that is just so genuine. So kind, so sweet. A smile that lights up a room. You can tell she’s trustworthy and honest. She means what she says and follows through. She provided my mom and I with groceries twice. I’ll be forever grateful to her. She showed up in the snow, the first time, with arms full! It really touched my heart because she also gave me this adorable scarf and fluffy socks set that I still have. Just knowing someone cares. She cares. Sacha connects with her community and beyond. She listens to the stories and struggles of others. You feel heard when you’re talking with her. The world is a better place because of her and I’m thankful to know her.
