Today we helped three different people in three different situations, including delivering a walker that was received with a big smile and a hug and will change how someone moves through their day to day life. We also offered a gift card and support with phone calls and applications, showing how simple acts can become the steady help people need when life does not move in a straight line. These small but genuine moments of care from different people add up to consistent support that carries us further than most can see and can become the really big thing that keeps someone going.
Today, we were able to help three different people in three different situations, all at different points in their lives. But the same thing stood out in each one which is that life doesn’t always (or usually) move in a straight line.
I had the honour of delivering a walker and was greeted with a big smile and a hug when I arrived that brightened my day. Delivering an item was something simple, but something that changes how a person functions in their day-to-day life.
Sometimes we fall, rebuild, and sometimes even get knocked down once again after we just got up. As challenging as that can be, sometimes what can help is very simple. A gift card, a walker, a few phone calls or help with applications for support. Someone just being around to care or expressing belief in someone. These acts become what helps someone else keep going and it doesn’t need to come from the same person each time. A tiny but genuine act of care from different people can equal consistency that makes that life changing difference.

We all need support in different ways at different times for different reasons. Someone can work hard to rebuild their life and still get hit with something unexpected. Someone else can be steady but need one specific thing to keep moving forward. Someone else may just need the right connection to stay safe and supported.
What people need changes, but the need for support or community for any of us doesn’t change. When support shows up for us at the right time, in the right way, it can carry us further than many can fully see. That small consistent thing, can actually be a really, really big thing.
