Today we delivered food and school materials to two single moms, topping up the cupboards and fridge for a mom and her young son and helping a student parent who was struggling to afford both program supplies and bills. One mom looked us in the eyes and said the support had changed her life and asked to join us in delivering items to others, turning a Sunday of good deeds into a growing wave of belonging and community where those helped are empowered to help the next person.
Today I had the honour of delivering two good deeds to two amazing people who are doing their best to improve their life circumstances. The cupboards and fridge needed a top up for a single mom and her young son and I was happy to be able to deliver it.
I also received a request from a student who is a single mom. They had life challenges that set them back and they wanted to try their best to beat the odds. They keep moving forwards despite the challenges they see in front of them. They were met with an endless search for support in purchasing the required materials for their program and found it impossible to pay their bills at the same time even with other supports they did receive.
When I delivered the items to the first mom, she put down the bags. Looked at me in the eyes and said “This has changed my life for me and my son. It would make me happy to be part of something so positive and uplifting. When you come here, we feel the joy you spread. If you need any help it would help us both if we could come with you to deliver items and change other peoples lives. We both want to help the community too.”
We both looked at each other with tears in our eyes and shared a good hug because something happened. She felt deeply impacted to the point she wanted to be part of the wave to make it stronger and to keep it going from person to person. And that’s exactly the point of the entire good deeds project. To have the impact go deep enough that people want to bring positive change to the world too.
I let them know that a Good Deeds Bus is in the making and that she and her son are welcome to join the wave of positivity.
A student with a child trying to make it on their own will now have food in the house, in their child’s stomach, and the required materials for school so they can create a better life. Another single mom will also have food to eat with their child and feel empowered and supported in their forward movement toward desirable circumstances. They will also be part of a loving community by joining the wave.
“I believe in a world where everyone belongs, and no person is left behind. In reviving the traditional spirit of community where we all help one another thrive together, and fill the gaps in one another’s lives.”
To uplift communities through a ripple of kindness that offers happiness, hope and inspires positive change. Tonight that was accomplished and that’s a Sunday well spent.
