We delivered Pediasure to families with children recovering from illness who were told to buy it but could not afford it, and formula to single moms who had run out and were struggling to get by. We also supported student parents transitioning off government assistance and into school by bringing extra food and hosting a truck tailgate shop where neighbours chose what they needed from a spread of essentials and treats. Tears, hugs, handshakes and contagious smiles turned this Friday into a powerful reminder that community donations can brighten lives and help everyone feel a little more supported and a little less alone.
Today we delivered an abundance of Pediasure directly to households with children recovering from illness that were advised to buy it but couldn’t afford to, and formula directly to single mom’s who ran out and are struggling to get by. We also delivered to students who are parents that were previously on government assistance and were able to go back to school to create a better life and need a little extra help as they make this change.
It was a very inspiring day filled with tears, hugs, handshakes and connection. We were also able to do a truck tailgate “shop” where individuals who have been going without enough food, chose what they needed from a selection of food I put out on the tailgate that included milk, cereal, eggs, tuna, lunch meats, fruits, vegetables, bread and more. We shared conversations, listened to personal stories and all empowered each other to keep going to create both a better life and a better world.
There were also treats for the kids to enjoy this weekend, and also for the adults who all had a kid within them too! And the kid in them sure smiled when they were asked to pick their favourite treat with my best smile.
“We all have a kid in us…and to see it shine through, is joy for the person who connects to that, and joy for anyone that sees the contagious smiles.”
When we feel the kid inside ourselves and express that outwards, it helps uplift everyone around us. It helps relieve from stress that weighs us down and lightens some of the load for a while. To stand with adults and connect to that side of ourselves together tonight in various ways was a Friday well spent and a Friday I’ll never forget.
This was all possible from these community donations that truly helped make the world a brighter place tonight.
